The ‘One Anothers’

If you’re thinking the “One Anothers” is a new program on the Sci-Fi Channel – you’re on the wrong track! ‘One anothers’ aren’t extra-terrestrials (yet!). They are fellow Christian pilgrims in this world, fellow members of the body of Christ. They are family.

Like our birth families, we may tend to place their needs toward the end of the long list of needs of everyone else. The challenge most of us have with things on the bottom of our lists is that they always seem to get rescheduled or drop off entirely.

Culture tells us to serve others – all others: the poor, the hungry, the disadvantaged and so on. And the Bible is clear that we are to show compassion, share our hope and respond to the needs of all others. But what about the ‘one anothers’? Ask yourself, “What have I done recently for my ‘one anothers’?”

Our Responsibility to ‘One Another’

The Bible mentions our relationship to ‘one another’ over 100 times. Here are a few excerpts: Read More »

What Is It About God That U Don’t Trust?

This question may sound absurd at first – but what do our actions reveal? Our actions reflect the state of our hearts, which is the seat of our emotions. Belief = behavior, so what’s our witness as Christians? What is it about God that we don’t trust? What about God is untrustworthy?

This morning we all woke up breathing – most with no assistance, congestion or thought to it. We were just breathing. Upon awakening, most of us immediately thought about the day’s action items and commitments and jumped out of bed ready to take on the day. We didn’t need assistance and most of us were free of aches and pains. Again, no thought to it – we just jumped up.

Why do I dwell here? Because God “gives to all life, breath, and all things.” He gives us life, breath and all things! Even the morning hot shower and double non-fat latte. So, why don’t we trust Him? Read More »

Why Do U Believe What U Believe?

At the Red Sea 2010

A friend recently posed this question. And she didn’t want a quick reply – she desired a thoughtful response, not a pat answer. So here you are, girlfriend. Here’s why I believe what I believe.

It is true that I was born into a Christian family and raised in the church. And, yes, I have no recollection of life without Jesus. I always knew of Him, although I didn’t always follow Him. The Bible tells us “even the demons believe” (James 2:18-20) and before we become “children of light“, we walk in darkness. I was most certainly in the dark before becoming a child of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Argue what you may – genetics or environment. I’m not a Christ-follower because I was born into a Christian family. I didn’t ‘inherit’ Christendom. I’m a Christian by faith, not by familiarity or family. He has become familiar to me through faith.

Why?

The why for me is a changed life. One day, not so long ago, I decided to take Jesus at His Word. Read More »
