What Do I Know of Holy?

There’s a thought provoking song by Addison Road called “What Do I Know of Holy.” The chorus continues to linger in my mind:

What do I know of You, who spoke me into motion?

Where have I even stood, but the soil along Your ocean?

Are You fire, are You fury?

Are You sacred, are You beautiful?

So what do I know? What do I know of holy?

I often reflect on this song and play a game with my memory. I try to think of answers to the questions in the lyrics. “Where in the Bible did He speak me into motion?” “Where in the Bible is God described as fire and fury?” “What is the Biblical meaning of sacred? How does that apply to God?” “Is He beautiful?” “What are His attributes?”

Then I contemplate the lyric about the soil along the ocean. I imagine the thousands of miles of coastline in the world, the gazillion grains of sand, the sheer vastness and depths of the sea. God is so huge and awesome as Creator. And as I reflect on the answers to all these questions, I realize that that I know little of the huge and Living God.
